Windows

When installing Midi2Macro on Windows, you will get a warning that the program has not been signed.

Windows Midi2Macro warning

This is happening because we have not yet submitted our program through Microsoft's official App Certification Program.
Submission requires a pricey SSL certificate.
While we're aiming to go through this process at a later stage, Midi2Macro is still a very small project that doesn't make enough money to justify the costs 😢

Midi2Macro does not attempt to steal any of your data, nor does it contain harmful viruses or does anything else nefarious.
It does not even require an active Internet connection and you can safely block it if anything should ask you for access.

If the Microsoft Warning stops you from using Midi2Macro, we'd love to hear about it so please send us a mesage!

MacOS

[TEST THIS]

When you launch Midi2Macro, you will see a list of all active MIDI devices currently connected to your computer.

Windows Midi2Macro warning
Midi2Macro will automatically detect when MIDI devices are connected and disconnected and refresh the list as needed.

At the top left corner of the interface you will find an option to Hide inactive devices.

Windows Midi2Macro warning
This option will hide all MIDI devices from which no notes have been received.
Pressing a MIDI note on an inactive device will make it become active.

When you press a note key on your connected MIDI device, Midi2Macro will detect it and display it below the name of the device that triggered the note.

Next to the note you will see a number of different options, depending on whether a Macro is currently assigned.

Press a note without a Macro assigned and click on Add Macro.

A dialog box will appear.
In here you can now assign a Macro to the MIDI note. You can choose from the following

  • 1. Open Folder

Select a folder on your computer. The MIDI note will open (or focus on) the folder.

  • 2. Launch App

Select an app on your computer. The MIDI note will launch (or focus on) the app.

  • 3. Trigger Shortcut

Connecting Shortcut Keys

While opening a folder or launching an app are straight forward, leveraging shortcut keys requires one further step.
Let's say you assigned "CMD + SHIFT + T" to MIDI note C1.
Pressing note C1 on your MIDI device triggers the "CMD + SHIFT + T" shortcut on your computer.
You now need to go into your desired program, e.g. OBS, Premiere Pro, Excel, and assign "CMD + SHIFT + T" to whichever action you would like to trigger.
Here is an example of linking it to a scene transition in OBS:

Now, pressing C1 on your MIDI device will trigger a scene transition in OBS.
